Emma Nelson, AMFT

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I hope that I will be able to help you on your journey. My name is Emma Nelson, and I am an Associate and Marriage Family Therapist practicing in Los Angeles under the licensed supervision of Seth Menachem.
I am originally from the United Kingdom, born in Northern Ireland and grew up in a suburb on the outskirts of London. I found my way to Los Angeles in 2003 and have been here ever since. I have worked for much of my life in the cultural industries, be it theatre at the Royal Shakespeare Company in England, or running my own casting company in Los Angeles for over 15 years. I bring this experience and insight into my therapeutic work.
I believe all people have the capacity to build a fulfilling life, however, many barriers may be interfering with your current sense of satisfaction. I can help you explore what factors are getting in the way for you, with a focus on reinforcing your strengths, and exploring where blockages within your life manifested, with an eye on the way in which they may be shifted and transformed. I hope to help you recognize, access, and adapt your internal and outside resources, decreasing distress, and promoting lasting growth, with the recognition that we as people are always adapting and changing. I am optimistic for your potential for healing and transformation, and I have the confidence that you will meet your goals.
I received my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles, and trained at Airport Marina Counseling Center, working with individuals, children/adolescents, and families who are undergoing major life changes: be it a new job or promotion, moving cities or countries, recent marriage or divorce/separation, birth of a baby/the introduction of a new family member, or they are currently affected by others who are experiencing their own life challenges/crisis.
Clients and colleagues often comment on my positive affirming stance – offering hope and possibility, as well as a sense of humor! I believe that this comes from the deep respect in all people’s human potential, and their ability to transcend and transform their lives, and the lives of others, to achieve their dreams and affect positive change in the community they live in.
