Are you considering counseling for women? Our therapists’ counseling for women’s issues provides support through obstacles such as depression, anxiety, body image and/or disordered eating, postpartum depression, stress, infertility, and personal growth. Women face unique challenges in society, and it can be difficult for them to seek help when confronted with conflicts, struggles and juggling many responsibilities. Being aware of and sensitive to women’s issues, as well as seeing life through the lens of a feminine perspective, are the heart of therapeutic work with women.
Reasons Women Should Try Counseling For Women's Issues
Historically and currently, social and cultural constraints affect a woman’s experience. Women are capable of being independent, professionals, providers, and holding any number of roles in addition to being caretakers and nurturers. Societal roles are continually evolving, and less emphasis on gender has helped challenge these assigned roles. However, women continue to face several sociocultural challenges that contribute to a greater risk of health concerns.
Depression and Anxiety
Do you struggle with fear? Do you worry a lot about the future, dwell on the past or are anxious about the present? Are you tired or irritated all the time? These are all potential symptoms of depression or anxiety. One of the most common reasons that women seek help in therapy is to deal with anxiety and depression. It can take a heavy toll on your health, relationships and life in general.
Postpartum Depression (PPD)
PPD is a common and serious mental health concern that can affect mothers within the first year after the birth of their baby. It is a mood disorder that occurs around the time of childbirth and most commonly starts during the first three weeks after birth. It’s normal to have mood swings, feel fatigued, stressed, or anxious for a few weeks after giving birth. PPD is the persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or excessive worry, or thoughts about harming yourself or your baby. Parents with PPD may find it difficult to care for or connect with their baby.
Stress
Stress is a natural part of living, however, chronic stress can make it impossible to complete daily responsibilities and tasks, focus or think clearly. Stress can manifest itself differently in each person; stress might be emotional, mental, and/or physical.
There are many experiences that can cause stress and have a significant impact on your health. If you have experienced any recent loss, a big move, increased financial obligations, chronic illness, a new baby, getting married or divorced, emotional problems (depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, etc), experiencing a traumatic event, or taking care of a family member you might be experiencing an increase of stress in your life.
It’s generally accepted that psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, and counseling therapy are among the most effective treatments for addressing stress. In session with your therapist you will explore the issues and experiences in your life that might be contributing to the stress. Behavior therapy is also commonly utilized to address symptoms associated with stress. Utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy with your therapist will allow you to work to recognize, challenge, and change destructive thought patterns.
Infertility
Fertility issues can lead to significant emotional distress and put strain on your partnership. The grief associated with infertility can be intense and painful. If you are struggling to become pregnant and this is creating a heightened experience of anxiety, depression, grief, and/or worry, you might benefit from meeting with a therapist. In session with your therapist you can work through your intense feelings and how that may or may not be impacting your partnership.
The Menachem Psychotherapy Group offers both individual and couples counseling and therapy to address the impact that infertility can have on your life and relationships.
If your child has experienced stressful situations like chronic illness, parents getting divorced, moving or the birth of a new sibling, therapy can help.

Eating Disorders, Disordered Eating, and Body Image
Many people engage in disordered eating behaviors as a result of past trauma, anxiety, or feelings of low-self worth. Are you struggling with an eating disorder, disordered eating, or body image issues? Do you want to embark on a journey towards self-love, intuitive eating, and compassion? Therapy can help you resolve trauma and develop healthy coping skills in order to beyond the disordered eating behaviors.
When recovering from an eating disorder or disordered eating, the body needs to heal in order for the brain to recover. This is why, if together we determine your eating disorder requires collaborative care with a specialized dietitian, or a higher level of care, we are happy to work with a team and provide referrals.
Personal Growth
Often, women seek therapy simply to learn more about themselves and grow in self-awareness. There does not need to be a conflict or crisis going on, but the desire for a deeper sense of identity, purpose, connection and fulfillment in life. Therapy is a wonderful place to create the space to explore aspects of ourselves that the busyness of everyday life do not always allow for.
Trauma and Crisis Counseling
The Menachem Psychotherapy Group also provides counseling for those who are dealing with past or current trauma. Whether you’ve suffered abuse in the past or have been involved in traumatic situations, counseling therapy can help you deal with these difficult emotions and find peace.
